Initial Report

Field Report

Military footage captured by an MQ-9 Reaper drone operating under the direction of the United States Air Force in Syria (2021). The UAP was observed and actively tracked - the Reaper established a weapons-quality lock on the object.

The object appeared to demonstrate abrupt directional changes, instantaneous acceleration, and intelligent control. The footage shows the UAP moving in ways that appeared to defy conventional aircraft capabilities.

Technical Details:

  • Location: Syria, imaged from the border of Jordan (32°05'39.2"N, 36°53'54.4"E)
  • Platform: MQ-9 Reaper / Multi-Spectral Targeting System (MTS-B)
  • Imaging Type: Thermographic / Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR)

Skeptical Analysis

Critical Review

Skeptical researchers have analyzed this footage and proposed mundane explanations:

Mick West and other analysts at Metabunk suggest the apparent "instantaneous acceleration" is likely a video artifact caused by the camera system losing track of the object. They note:

  • The object appears cold (white) in the FLIR imagery, which is unusual for a typical aircraft
  • The motion may be caused by camera tracking system changes (switching from RPOINT to RATE G mode)
  • The object could be a mylar balloon drifting in the wind
  • Localized gain adjustments in the camera system may create the illusion of rapid movement

The analysis suggests the "acceleration" is actually the camera panning away while the object remains relatively stationary, creating the illusion of rapid departure.

Formal Conclusions

Official Determination

No official determination has been released by the U.S. military or AARO regarding this specific incident. The footage was leaked and made public in early 2026.

The original documentation notes: "Origin, intent, and capabilities remain unknown."

Skeptical analysis suggests the phenomenon is likely attributable to camera artifacts and possibly a balloon, though definitive proof remains elusive.

No source document has been linked to this case yet. The records released by the U.S. Department of War are indexed in the document library.
